I believe that learning is enjoyable and exciting. As an instructor, I facilitate students achievement and mastery through carefully planned, engaging and research based teaching strategies and techniques. I provide an advantageous, supportive, safe learning environment for students to learn, grow, and achieve. I coordinate with my colleagues to ensure the materials are linked, and to help students exceed the learning objectives. Furthermore, I believe I have authentic, joyful and professional relationship with my colleagues and students.Throughout my teaching career, I have been passionate about working with both English language learners and English language educators from different countries. Currently I teach in the American Language and Culture Program (ALCP) at the University of Idaho. Here I have had the opportunity to develop my skills in designing curricula that consider students' need while addressing contextual issues and institutional criteria. However, I have also taught non-native speakers of English at two intensive English for Academic Purposes programs. I have taught English native speakers at the college-level in the United States and adolescent English language learners from Grade 3-11 in Taiwan.
With regard to my experience in terms of professional development, my scholarly presentations at both regional and national conferences over the past several years have represented my academic gals including the importance of professional development, ESL teaching theories and concepts, the integration of technologies with learning outcomes, and the values of active learning environments.
In the next 5 years, I would like to emphasize on interactive instructional strategies, meaning-based instruction and using technology to create better and more flexible teaching and learning environments for ESL students. What is more, my long-team goals are focused on developing ESL curriculum and materials, providing professional development training sessions for English language educators, participating in ongoing professional development activities as well as writing journal articles for publication.
